Is There A Vaccine Against Herpes Vaccination against herpes

There is currently no treatment that can eradicate herpes virus from the body, but antiviral medications can reduce the frequency, duration and severity of relapses. Very recent advances in scientific understanding of medicinal plants suggest a much wider use in the treatment of herpes infections that science thought possible a decade ago.

Docosanol is available as a cream for direct application to the affected area of skin. It prevents HSV fusion of cell membranes, thereby preventing the entry of virus into the skin. Docosanol has been approved for use after clinical trials by the FDA in July 2000. Docosanol is marketed by Avanir Pharmaceuticals under the name Abreva.

Tromantadine is available as a gel that prevents the entry and spread of the virus by altering the composition of the surface skin cells and inhibiting the release of viral genetic material. Zilactin is a topical analgesic barrier, which forms a "shield" in the area of application to avoid a plague of increased size, and decrease the viral spread during the healing process.

There is limited research that has shown that tea tree oil may have topical anti-viral activity, especially with the herpes virus. On the first tingling or pain in the region, before any physical manifestation, apply oil tea tree continuously for several hours. If you are caught early enough a cold sore will not.

Cimetidine, a common component of medicines heartburn and probenecid has been shown to reduce the renal clearance of acyclovir. These compounds also reduce the rate, but not the extent, at which valaciclovir is converted into acyclovir. Another treatment is the use of petroleum jelly. The healing of cold sores is sped up by limiting water or saliva from reaching the wound.

Limited evidence suggests that low-dose aspirin might be beneficial in patients with recurrent HSV infections. Aspirin is a drug non-steroidal anti-inflammatory that reduces the level of prostaglandins that are essential in creating inflammation. A recent animal study showed inhibition of heat stress-induced shedding of HSV-1 in the eye with aspirin, and a possible benefit in reducing the frequency of relapses.

The National Institutes of Health in the United States is currently conducting Phase III Herpevac, a vaccine against HSV-2. The vaccine has been shown to be effective for women who have never been exposed to HSV-1. Overall, the vaccine is about 48% effective in preventing HSV-2 seropositivity and about 78% effective in preventing symptoms of HSV-2.

During initial trials, the vaccine offers no proof of prevention of HSV-2 infection in males. In addition, the only vaccine reduces the acquisition of HSV-2 and symptoms due to newly acquired HSV-2 infection in women who did not have HSV-2 when they received the vaccine. Since approximately 20% of people in the United States have HSV-2, which further reduces the population for whom this vaccine might be appropriate.

Researchers at the University of Florida have a Hammerhead ribozyme that targets and cleaves the mRNA of genes essential to HSV-1. The hammer that targets the mRNA of the gene UL20 drastically reduced the level of HSV-1 ocular infection in rabbits and reduced viral production in vivo.

The medical community has not been successful in developing a treatment to eradicate existing infections without causing extensive damage to the skin, trauma, or relapse. Above all, China has now banned the vaccine as they have found the injection of a pathogen in your system just not working as it stays in your system, remains latent in the joints, only to reappear several years later from the arthritis horrible and / or auto immune disorders.
