Foam filtration for aquariums and ponds; Why Sponge filters do not forget that filters for your aquarium or pond sponge filter is a type often overlooked filtration freshwater aquariums or ponds and even an aquarium. Many people look beyond their simplicity as ineffective, but therein lies their quality. I used them for my aquarium maintenance for 27 years with excellent results. Here is a list of their attributes:
[1] Easy to use, most run on very basic air pumps and motor. One of the best beginner aquarium filters simplicity reason and cost. But the filter sponges are also popular with breeders and research facilities, because they are very effective but simple filters.
[2] Excellent biological filtration, they are very porous and can hold very large colonies of aerobic bacteria in proportion to the space they occupy. Please note that all materials used for filters sponge are equal, there are patents on that account! The sponge filter Hydro holds several patents for sponge filters for this reason!
[3] mechanical filtration, even if they are not the best mechanical filters, they still did a good job for their small size and make excellent primary and secondary filters when used in combination with other filters such as HOB, canister, or internal filters.
[4] Very little 'dead' areas to trap pockets of harmful bacteria, unlike the sub-gravel filters, and even wet / dry filters (which in my experience, are rated).
[5] Easy to clean, simply remove the sponge and squeeze or rinse water from the aquarium or old dechlorinated tap water. The advantage here is the aquarium is less likely to skip cleaning the filter (unlike many complex filters), which can lead to develop organic nitrates increasing and lowering the pH and KH.
[6] are large sponge filters in aquariums in a couple of different ways, one way is a sump (sometimes on the side) with a pump head low power (as a Via Aqua 480), the other ( usually in an application of coral) was inside the aquarium with either an air pump or power head. The beauty or the application is that they are easy to rinse with water aquarium used in the application of coral has been particularly useful in that I could have spread debris before cycling and produced nitrate. They are an excellent complement to "live rock" aquariums reef filtered.
[7] Probably the best filtration for breeding tanks, hospital tanks, aquariums and even the disk, because they are not "suck" in the baby or weak fish or attract bacteria harmful.
[8] For breeding cichlids they excel, they are not easily disturbed by Cichlids tend to dig.
[9] Economy
[10] Now available in larger sizes for aquariums over 60 gallons.
[11] Sponge filters can even be used in ponds. With "Hydro Pond Filter" , simply attach a pump head of food (as a Via Aqua 2600), then run your line back to where you want (waterfall, ECT). Or the Hydro Pond II can be used outside of a simple air pump. These filters can work on ponds up to 1,500 gallons (or over with additional units).
[12] There are also filters that sponges are used as a "pre-filter" for contributions to the canister, wet / dry filters for power, and more. They offer more bio-filtration to your existing system and the protection of juveniles, plants, anemones, or be sucked into your filter.
These sponge pre-filter are zero.
