Canker Sores In Children

Cold sores in children usually develop the first time they catch the virus. Children receive Herpes Simplex Virus type I (HSV-I) through kissing and peck their parents and friends who are already infected by the virus or are just carriers. They normally get swollen gums and a painful sensation in the mouth. After a few days, small vesicles that transform into forms shallow painful wound. The child may have fever and swollen lymph nodes in the neck.

When your child is having a cold sore, you should avoid salty, spicy or acidic foods that irritate the nerves in the wounds. Encourage your child to wash their hands frequently and avoid picking at the wound.
