Breath Rx Mouthwash

Posted on January 1, 2010.
Breath Rx MouthwashIs an ingredient cetylpyridinium chloride mouthwash bad?

I read that the ingredient is the Crest Pro Health Rinse that causes staining of teeth. But in other mouthwashes (like breath Rx) and I've never heard of coloring with them.

Any experts know the answer?

The coloring part is controversial because it has been shown in vitro and "sort of" in vivo evidence based primarily on the concentration.

However, the cetylpyridinium chloride is the sweetest possible rinse as much as your gums are affected. Chlohexidine is that most stains, then tea and cetylpyridinium.

If you need CPC because you have dry mouth or gum problems, I say use it. The health of your gums is much more important than the color of your teeth, especially because it can be corrected if the gums are healthy, while the former can be corrected.

If your dentist thinks you should use this product, then use it independently. I read on Wikipedia that Cetylpyridinium chloride causes discoloration between the teeth, flossing is a very good idea before using these rinses. If the stain is removable by an officer without damaging the teeth, then you have little reason to worry.
